A woman was rescued last week after going missing in an Oregon forest while foraging for mushrooms.
On Tuesday, Oct. 29, Mandy Greer, 43, visited a “wilderness area” near the coastal city of Reedsport to pick mushrooms with her significant other, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Officesaid in an Oct. 31 news release on Facebook.
The couple set off in the afternoon and only planned to be out “for a few hours,” but Greer went missing after they separated in the forest.
The sheriff’s office said that Greer’s partner contacted 911 after she had not returned to their vehicle as they previously discussed.

Deputies and local search and rescue teams “spent several hours searching for Greer” on Oct. 29, using multiple search efforts including “ground, fixed wing aircraft and drone work.”
According to the sheriff’s office, a drone operator “identified potential heat signatures” but searchers were still unable to locate Greer.

The teams paused their search efforts “in the early morning hours” of Wednesday, Oct. 30, but resumed them around 7 a.m. local time with assistance from Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue unit.
Greer then made “voice contact” with a deputy around 9:15 a.m., roughly two hours later.
“Rescuers provided first aid, food and hot tea before assisting Greer to the roadway where she was transferred to the care of EMS providers,” the sheriff’s office said in the post.
On Friday, Nov. 1, Greer commented on the agency’s Facebook post, writing, “Thank you so much everyone. I was so blessed to have such a wonderful, great spirited group find me. I will be forever grateful.”
