A woman is igniting conversation online after sharing that she plans on giving her husband “everything” if she dies first — unless he remarries, in which case he’ll only get half.
In a post onReddit, the woman explains, “Right now we share accounts and all our finances and everything.”
“If I happen to die before him, I told him he would get everything. 100%,” she writes. “But, if he decides to get remarried, I wanted half of my retirement fund to go to him then half to our children- whenever that might be; 1 day after my death or 20 years after my death.”

Now, the woman writes, her husband is upset, but the wife says she won’t budge, adding that his hypothetical “new wife” should be financially responsible.
“I said his new wife should have her own retirement plan for him to share. If she doesn’t, that’s not my problem,” she writes. “He should have picked a second wife that was financially responsible.”
She continues: “I’ve worked hard for decades to build up my retirement, I don’t want his new wife to take advantage of all that I’ve worked for and use it up and leave nothing for my children.”
While the wife adds she “would be ok with getting 50% if I remarried,” she acknowledges that her husband “doesn’t feel the same way.” Now, she wants to know from others: is she in the wrong?
Commenters on Reddit are urging the woman to hire an attorney and draw up a will, with one writing, “Find a really good lawyer to help you make a will. Then it’s in writing and final. Sooner than later.”
