A woman is asking the Internet for advice after planning a trip abroad on the same week her sister-in-law is due to give birth.

In a post shared anonymously toReddit, the woman writes that she and her sister-in-law “are not close and never have been.”

“She’s never been friendly towards me and only gives me the time of day because she worships the ground her brother (my husband) walks on,” the poster writes.

Now, the sister-in-law is due to give birth to her first child in April 2025 — the same week the poster is planning a trip to London with her mom.

“My mom just surprised me with a trip to London that same month for my birthday, our first time ever traveling together,” she writes. “When I told my husband, I wasn’t expecting his reaction. He said I can’t go because our trip falls on the same week as my SIL’s due date.”

She continues: “I said who cares? SIL doesn’t even like me, I highly doubt she cares if I’m at the hospital.”

But her husband has remained firm, reminding the poster that his sister came to the hospital when she gave birth — and asking that she return the courtesy.

She continues: “He says I’m being rude and unreasonable. I argue it’s a lame excuse for me to cancel, or completely rearrange, my trip. Pretty sure the flights are non-refundable too.”

Fellow Reddit users have weighed in, with one commenter writing, “Due dates are rarely accurate and your mom did a really great thing!!! So you’re supposed to disappoint your mom for someone who doesn’t even want you around? Go on your trip, girl, and have a great time!!!”

Another wrote of the poster’s husband, “WTF does he think you’re going to do at the hospital with your sister? Be there with a catcher’s mitt? Literally no woman in labor wants a crowd around her if Reddit is any indication. He’s being stupid. Go on your trip. She will probably be glad you’re not there.”
